Court in Kyiv arrests Yanukovych in absentia
Will be "in custody" for two months

The Pechersky District Court of Kyiv has chosen a measure of restraint in the form of detention for the ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych
The corresponding decision was made by the judge on May 12. "The court ruled: to satisfy the petition, to apply a measure of restraint in the form of detention within the period of the pre-trial investigation against the suspect Viktor Yanukovych," the judge said.
The ex-president's lawyers demanded not to consider the measure of restraint, since the pre-trial investigation had expired, and also asked for the removal of prosecutors, arguing that they were acting biased. The defense also demanded that Yanukovych himself be summoned to court, but the lawyers' petitions were rejected.
“At the same time, this is the second arrest in absentia in two weeks. Last week, Viktor Yanukovych was already arrested once in absentia, in the case of the usurpation of power,” the Telegram channel recalls. Klymenko Time.
Recall that on January 24, 2019, the Obolonsky District Court of Kyiv found Yanukovych guilty of high treason and complicity in planning, preparing, unleashing and waging an aggressive war and sentenced him to 13 years in prison in absentia. At the same time, the court found the former president not guilty of complicity in encroaching on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine.
