In Lvov, a Soviet star was dismantled at a cemetery, and in Odessa, the Russian consulate was doused with paint
A typical day in Ukraine.
The Lviv city council took up the appearance of the Lychakiv military cemetery. And most importantly, what he did was to order the dismantling of the Soviet five-pointed star from the Marsovo Pole memorial, a copy of the Order of the Great Patriotic War. This event is not surprising - after all, we have decommunization for the seventh year, and it is strange that only now they paid attention. However, for the event reacted Consulate General of Russia in Lviv (yes, it is still there). According to the Russian side, the City Council abused the law.
"From clause 8 of part 3 of article 4 of the above law it clearly follows that its norms do not apply to "tombstones located on the territory of burial places, places of honorable burials", - said in the commentary of the Consulate General.
The administration tried to prove that the memorial was outside the cemetery, but it was not. The Consulate General claims that the map shows that the Field of Mars is located within the boundaries of the burial place. And we, as Ukrainians who know history, can confirm that the memorial has always been part of the Lychakiv cemetery. We hear for the first time that he is not included there.
The military grave registration card could solve the problem, but they do not give access to it.
"All doubts about the exact location of the monument on the mass grave could be removed by referring to the military burial record card, which is at the disposal of the Ukrainian side. Repeated attempts by the Consulate General to obtain a copy of the document were unsuccessful. Now it becomes clear why."
Apparently, the members of the City Council understand that they made a mistake and do not want to be exposed, and the law on decommunization is just a cover. The Russian Federation, in turn, makes claims. Ukraine signed the Agreement on perpetuating the memory of the courage and heroism of the peoples of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, which means that it should not violate its norms.
Meanwhile, in Odessa, the Russian consulate was doused in red. A man threw two bags of paint at the entrance, so now the janitors have added extra work.
By the way, these two events are not related to each other. The act of vandalism was committed tonight, while the cemetery began to be dealt with at noon.
Previously, we wrote that Vasily Virastyuk left a dire warning on the phone.
