According to the draft law, religious organizations (associations) that directly or as an integral part of another religious organization (association) are part of the structure (are part of) a religious organization (association), the governing center of which is located outside Ukraine in a state that is recognized by law as having committed military aggression against Ukraine.

The Moscow Patriarchate may take away the temple in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine created its own male monastery called the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Now the OCU plans to apply to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to transfer one of the churches and a number of premises of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra to them.

The OCU notes the need to “overcome the consequences of non-canonical subordination to the authorities of the Moscow Patriarchate” of the largest Orthodox shrine in Ukraine. About this according to the results of the decision of the Holy Synod of the OCU reported her press service on the evening of May 23.

“Given the special significance of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra as a shrine of all-Ukrainian and world significance, in order to overcome the consequences of the non-canonical subordination of this monastery to the authorities of the Moscow Patriarchate, at the suggestion of His Beatitude Metropolitan Epiphanius of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the Synod decided to form a religious association of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) religious organization "Holy Assumption Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (monastery) of the UOC (OCU)", - said in a statement.

The synod approved the charter of the new organization and determined that it was directly subordinate to the primate of the OCU as its sacred archimandrite. Next in line is an appeal to the government with a request to transfer part of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

“The Synod also asked the primate to apply to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with a request to transfer one of the churches of the Upper Lavra and its individual premises for use for worship and monastic activities of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra of the UOC (OCU),” - Noted the press service.

Recall that currently the National Kiev-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve operates in the Upper Lavra. The monastery complex on the territory of the Lavra is leased by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The UOC-MP called the decision of the Synod of the OCU on the creation of the religious organization "Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (monastery) of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine" an "occupational policy of church looting" in the UOC-MP. This is stated in comments Legal Department of the UOC-MP.

“On this occasion, first of all, we emphasize that in its decision to establish the OCU male monastery in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the Synod of the OCU actually duplicates the name of the UOC male monastery currently operating in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra,” - the message says. The UOC-MP also believes that the creation of the monastery carries a "potential threat of hostility on religious grounds."
