US doesn't know what happens to weapons sent to Ukraine - CNN

The US has few ways to trace the shipments of anti-tank, anti-aircraft and other weapons it sent across the border into Ukraine. About it сообщают CNN citing Pentagon sources.

However, this is called a conscious risk, which the White House administration agrees to take. In the short term, the US believes the transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of equipment is vital to Ukraine's ability to deter a Russian invasion. The risk, according to both current US officials and military analysts, is that in the long run some of these weapons could end up in the hands of other military forces and militias that the US had no intention of arming.

It is impossible to track where the supplied weapons go, since the US military is not on the ground. On an anonymous basis, US officials acknowledge that Ukraine has an incentive to provide only information that will support their case for more aid, more weapons, and more diplomatic assistance.

For months, American and Western officials have provided detailed reports on what the West knows about the status of Russian forces in Ukraine: how many casualties they have suffered, their remaining combat capability, their weapons stockpiles, what types of ammunition they use and where. But when it comes to Ukraine, officials acknowledge that the West, including the US, has information gaps. Western estimates of Ukrainian casualties are also vague, according to two sources familiar with US and Western intelligence.

It is noted that the American leadership monitors where the weapons are located only before they enter the territory of Ukraine.

“We have data for the first time [after the arrival of weapons in Ukraine], but when they (weapons) fall into the fog of war, we have almost no such data. (…) It falls into a big black hole.”, one source told CNN.

APU did not receive American aircraft

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that they received spare parts and components for aircraft from the allies, but the aircraft themselves were not received.

“Ukraine did not receive new aircraft from partners! With the assistance of the US government, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine received spare parts and components for the restoration and repair of the fleet of aircraft that are in service with the Air Force aviation, which will allow more equipment to be put into operation.- said in the message.

Recall that on April 19, the Pentagon reported that Ukraine received assistance from other countries, which made it possible to increase the number of military aircraft in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. About it said speaker of the Pentagon John Kirby.

“I want to say, without going into details about what other countries provide, that they (Ukrainians) received additional platforms, as well as details to allow them to increase their fleet, the size of the fleet. I think it's worth stopping there."Said Kirby.

To a clarifying question from a journalist, Kirby explained that by the word "platforms" he meant "aircraft."

Earlier we wrote that, according to Bloomberg, military aid to Ukraine depletes US arsenals, and that the biggest challenge for the US the Pentagon considers China.
