Russia launched a massive missile attack on the cities of Ukraine on New Year's Eve: what is the situation in the regions

On Saturday, December 31, 2022, Russia launched another massive attack on Ukrainians. The main target was Kyiv, but arrivals were also recorded in Zhytomyr, Khmelnitsky region, Nikolaev and other cities of Ukraine. Read more in our timeline of events. 

The missile launches became known around 11:30 am, December 31. At 12:45 in Ukraine, air raid alarms went off one after another. Explosions began 15 minutes later. 

Commander of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny said that in total Russia fired 20 cruise missiles in Ukraine, 12 of them were able to shoot down. 

The situation in the regions

Kyiv under fire. More than 10 explosions thundered in Kyiv. “Arrivals” were recorded in Pechersky, Goloseevsky and Solomensky districts of the capital. Later it turned out that the rocket hit a hotel in the city center. 

• In the Solomensky district, debris hit a private house. One person died, three victims - a woman and two men, were taken to the hospital. 
• In the Goloseevsky district, the arrival was also in the private sector, but fortunately - without casualties and serious consequences. 
• But in the Pechersky district, a rocket hit a hotel not far from the Palace "Ukraine". As a result, the building was destroyed from the facade, the palace was also damaged - the windows flew out. 

In addition, in the Svyatoshinsky district, debris damaged the building of the Temp stadium - the windows flew out from the impact. Later Vitaliy Klichko said that in total there were eight people injured in the city, one in a very serious condition. A journalist from Japan was also injured during the shelling.  However, already at 16:12, after the alarm was canceled, the mayor of Kyiv specified that 20 people had been injured, 14 of them in hospitals. 

Zaporozhye. In Zaporizhzhya, an enemy missile arrived.

"Information about the destruction and casualties is being specified," - сообщил city ​​council secretary Anatoly Kurtev.

4 people were injured, including a teenage girl. In addition, two men, a girl and another pregnant woman. 

Khmelnitsky region. A rocket was shot down, but the wreckage hit a residential building. Four people were injured. 

Nikolayev Mayor of the city Vitaly Kim reported strikes on the city. The ship area suffered - there are six wounded, three of them are in a very serious condition.
