Ukraine-Russia negotiations: Zelensky speaks of futility, Macron asks to sit down at the negotiating table, Blinken speaks of disinterest

Talk about whether there will be negotiations between Russia and Ukraine or not has been going on since the first day of the war. Every week, politicians from both Ukraine and Russia and other countries make statements regarding the possibility of a peaceful settlement of the war.

Actually, the traditional supporter of negotiations, the President of France Emmanuel Macron again called on the parties to use the power of words and sit down at the negotiating table. He stated that the only way to end the war in Ukraine is through negotiations. He said this in an interview with the publication CBS News.

“I think it’s important to convey the message that Ukrainians should decide this, the only way to find a solution is through negotiations. I don't see a military option on earth." Macron said. At the same time, the French President stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine.

Moreover, Macron admitted that during a meeting with the Russian Presidentm Vladimir Putin saw in his eyes nothing elseas an insult to the US and the EU. Macron believes that Putin harbored a grudge against the West because of alleged attempts to destroy Russia.

“Probably a kind of resentment (I saw it in Putin's eyes - ed.). Regarding the last decades and the Western world. Resentment against the US and the EU is extremely important. And the feeling that our goal is to destroy Russia. I don't believe this is our goal. That was never our goal in France." - said the French leader.

At the same time, he stated that the Russian people should be respected because of cultural and historical ties. "When we had a very long conversation... there was a clear understanding that the Russian people are a great people with a great history. And his goal and perhaps his destiny was to restore, perhaps, the empire., - he said.

Zelensky again declared the futility of negotiations

But the President of Ukraine stubbornly bends the line of victory by military means without using the negotiation process. So, despite the calls of international partners about the need to return Ukraine to the negotiation process with the Russians, Kyiv has ruled out such a possibility so far.

Such information the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky voiced in an interview with the Financial Times. According to the Ukrainian leader, the interests of Western partners and Kyiv regarding the return to dialogue with Russia may diverge, because the Ukrainians are against making compromises with the aggressor because of the thousands of deaths, large-scale destruction and war crimes of Moscow against the civilian population of Ukraine.

In addition, some of the Western partners fear that Ukraine's desire the return of Crimea could entail a dangerous escalation of the President of Russia, in particular, and provoke him to use weapons of mass destruction. By the way, we have already mentioned that an attempt to return Crimea to Ukrainian rule would be a difficult military operation and could lead to a split with the allies, which Ukraine cannot afford to lose.

Zelensky noted that indeed hears calls for the need to return to the negotiation process with the Russians, but he rejects them. "The world is not a doctor with great experience, not Putin’s doctor, and Putin is not a patient of this world.” Zelensky said.

The US does not see enough Russian interest in the power of words

U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Vladimir Putin does not show that he is interested in launching a process of peace negotiations to end the war against Ukraine. On the contrary, according to him, Putin's actions are aimed at escalation and harm Ukrainian civilians.

In the interview CBS he said that Russia's actions do not at all indicate its willingness to negotiate. “There is always value in diplomacy if the parties in question, and in this case Russia, are really interested in constructive diplomacy. And what we have seen, at least recently, is just the opposite, Blinken noted.

Blinken said that even during the G20 summit, at which Zelensky spoke, Russian troops launched missile strikes on Ukraine's critical infrastructure. “Putin can’t be effective on the battlefield, so basically he is directing his anger and fire at Ukrainian civilians who are attacking the energy infrastructure, trying to turn off the lights, turn off the heating, turn off the electricity. That's what's going on", the official said.

While politicians are looking for the possibility of a negotiation process, cities are being shelled and civilians are dying. AT we reported to our military summary, that during the current day there were shelling of Krivoy Rog, Zaporozhye, Donetsk, Alchevsk and other cities.

Earlier we wrote about what are the features of the rhetoric of the parties in the negotiations and what is the strategy of Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
