IAEA is on its way: experts will arrive in Energodar in a few days

The mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency has already left Vienna and went to the Zaporozhye NPP. Experts will arrive at the station in a few days. This was announced on Twitter by the head of the IAEA Raphael Grossi.

"The day has come, the IAEA mission of support and assistance to ZNPP is now on its way. We must protect the safety of the largest nuclear facility in Ukraine and Europe," - He said.

Grossi stressed that he was proud of the opportunity to lead the experts.

At the same time, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov stated, that Russia guarantees the safety of IAEA experts only when moving through the territory under its control near the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

"In the part that concerns the territory controlled by Russia, of course, security will be provided there at the required level, taking into account the risks that constantly prevail there and are associated with incessant shelling by the Ukrainian side"- he said.

According to Peskov, IAEA experts will arrive at the station through the territory controlled by Ukraine, where Kyiv will be responsible for security. Also, when asked by journalists who is participating in the negotiations on the admission of the organization's specialists to nuclear power plants, Peskov said that he could not say for sure, but "there are definitely soldiers there".

And here is the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) declares that Russia may try to delay the arrival of the IAEA mission to the occupied Energodar, and that Russia is manipulating, claiming that the composition of the mission makes it doubt that its conclusions will be "fair".

We recall that according to The New York Times, there are no representatives of the USA and Great Britain in the IAEA delegation, and in addition to Grossi, 13 experts from various mostly neutral countries take part in the mission.

In addition, ISW, in its report, cites information, according to them, received from Ukrainian officials, who report that the Russians threaten employees of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, demanding that they not report security violations to IAEA inspectors, and also that Russian-appointed authorities are collecting signatures of Energodar residents demanding to stop "Ukrainian attacks".

In turn, in Russia declare that the forthcoming visit of the IAEA mission to Energodar caused panic among the Kyiv authorities. About it how сообщают Russian media, said a representative appointed by the Russian Federation "authorities in the Zaporozhye region" Vladimir Rogov.

"The visit will take place this week, unless the Kyiv regime disrupts it. Zelensky and his team are in a panic. After all, if the IAEA inspection arrives, the whole world will know who is shelling the station, why forbidden experiments were carried out there during the Ukrainian period, and how residents of the Zaporozhye region strive for the region to become part of Russia", - he said.

In the meantime, the shelling of both the power plant itself and the residential areas of the city continues.

В as a result of the night shelling of Energodar injured 9 civiliansTwo of them are in serious condition in the hospital. also burned down 25 vehicles and more 40 damaged, windows were smashed in many apartments. The parties traditionally accuse each other of shelling.

And in the afternoon, the "authorities" of Energodar, appointed by the Russian Federation, announced another shelling of the territory of the power plant, as a result of which the roof of the special building of the nuclear power plant, which stores nuclear fuel, was pierced.

But for now, one can only hope that the representatives of the IAEA will be able to reduce the tension around the power plant.

Recall that at the end of last week For the first time in history, Zaporozhye NPP was completely disconnected from the grid due to shelling.and catastrophe was averted only thanks to a backup power system.

Previously, we wrote that the shutdown of all power units of the Zaporizhzhya NPP may lead to the “Fukushima scenario”,and also about what will be the radiation cloud in the event of an explosion at the ZNPP and which areas it threatens the most.
