ChornobylNotChernobyl: the trailer for the game STALKER 2 provoked another language scandal
The developers were accused of "insufficient attention" to the Ukrainian language

A new scandal erupted on the network. Ukrainian studio GSC Game World published on his Youtube channel trailer from the game STALKER 2. The release date of the game has also become known - April 28, 2022.
The game has not even had time to go out, and passions are already heating up. Some Ukrainian users were outraged that the trailer was released in Russian, so you might get the impression that the game was developed in Russia.
- I would like to say something positive, but releasing a game in Russian is disrespectful to the Ukrainian and global audience, - users write.
In addition, gamers are outraged that Chernobyl is not written "Chornobyl", but "Chernobyl".
- Chernobyl is Ukraine, the name must be in Ukrainian, - critics do not appease.
The hashtag ChornobylNotChernobyl has already been launched on the topic.
- When will you remember ChornobylNotChernobyl, - underline in the comments
The developers, for their part, said that Ukrainian voice acting will also be available in the game. As for the name of the continuation of the game, there are no official comments yet.
It is worth noting that the original mention of Chernobyl in the game series was Chernobyl.
And the Russian language, most likely, was used for release to a wide audience - the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kazakhstan. The product needs a market and sales. If we compare the numbers, everything becomes clear: in the CIS, 950 thousand copies of the previous part of the game were sold, in the world - only 700 thousand.
Information:
The events of the game STALKER unfold in an alternative world in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The first game in the series called "STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl" was released in March 2007.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine initiated the #KyivNotKiev campaign. Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmitry Kuleba wrote a whole ode dedicated to the correctness of the translation of our capital into English. The dilemma "what is the correct spelling: Kiev or Kyiv?" did not let the official sleep peacefully. Here is how he commented:
- Ukraine has stormed one of the last fortified bastions of the misspelling of our capital "Kiev" on the worldwide web. From now on, Wikipedia writes Kyiv, not Kiev... the #KyivNotKiev campaign initiated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sharpens the global information space.
Recall that on July 16, 2019, the law “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language” came into force in Ukraine, which was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on April 25.
From January 16, 2021 in cafes and restaurants, supermarkets and shops, banks and gas stations, libraries and pharmacies - wherever there is staff, should serve citizens exclusively in Ukrainian. In the event that a guest or client personally requests, service can be provided in another language.
Klymenko-time also reported that after the addition to "language law". Daily authorized bodies receive messages/denunciations on waiters and cashiers who refuse to speak Ukrainian with visitors. Since they cannot yet fine violators, the guardians of cultural order are fighting against those who disagree with the help of black PR and intimidation. The so-called language patrols will join the case.
