G19, Ukrainian formula for peace and condemnation of Russian aggression: preliminary results of the GXNUMX meeting

Fabulous Bali hosts the G20 summit, within which a number of high-profile political statements have already been made. We are talking about the main things that have happened at the summit so far.

Not everyone wants to be photographed.

Opening the event, the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo said "The world must not slide into another Cold War"and also called for an end to the war in Ukraine. And in general, the condemnation of the war was the key leitmotif of the event.

China leader Xi Jinping noted the need to abolish "unilateral sanctions" and lifting restrictions on scientific and technological cooperation, and added that "resolutely oppose attempts to politicize and use food and energy issues as tools or weapons". In addition, he stressed that China's position on the Ukrainian crisis is clear and consistent: it stands for a ceasefire, a cessation of war and peace talks.

And the President of the United States Joe Biden and Xi Jinping agreed that nuclear weapons should never be used, including in Ukraine.

The President of the Russian Federation refused to participate in the summit, and the Russian delegation was headed by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergey Lavrov.

After an informal dinner of G20 leaders, the President of South Korea took part in a group photo Yoon Seok Yeol, leader of Indonesia Joko Widodo, President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese and IOC President Thomas Bach. That is, only 5 people, although other summit participants were also present at the dinner, including the British Prime Minister and the German Chancellor.

Zelensky's speech

President of Ukraine spoke at the summit Vladimir Zelensky, who voiced Ukraine's proposals to achieve peace with Russia. According to him, if you fulfill these 10 points, it will be possible to end the war:

  1. Radiation and nuclear safety.
  2. Food security.
  3. Energy security.
  4. Release of all prisoners and deportees.
  5. Implementation of the UN Charter and restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine and world order.
  6. The withdrawal of Russian troops and the cessation of hostilities.
  7. The return of justice.
  8. Ecocide resistance.
  9. Escalation prevention.
  10. Recording the end of the war.

Zelensky said that there was no need to offer Ukraine compromises with sovereignty, territory and independence, and there would be no Minsk-3.

Zelensky also called the G19 "GXNUMX", hinting that Russia should be excluded from it.

“There is and cannot be any justification for nuclear blackmail. And I thank you, dear G19, for making this clear. Please use all your might to force Russia to give up any nuclear threats.", - he said.

Most countries intend to condemn the war in Ukraine

In the draft joint statement of the G20 leaders following the meeting says about what wouldоMost of its participants strongly condemned Russia for the war in Ukraine.

“Most members strongly condemned the war in Ukraine and stressed that it is causing enormous human suffering and exacerbating existing problems in the global economy, limiting growth, increasing inflation, disrupting supply chains, increasing energy and food insecurity and heightening risks to financial stability.”- said in a statement.

The draft also cited the resolution of the UN General Assembly, adopted in March, which "condemns in the strongest terms the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine and demands its complete and unconditional withdrawal of troops from the territory of Ukraine".

The draft resolution also focuses on the extension of the grain deal, which expires this weekend.

The paper also makes it clear that some countries “other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions”. The Russian side insisted on including this clause. It is not yet clear whether Russia will support this resolution, given that it condemns its actions towards Ukraine.
